Understanding bone building. Bones are constantly being broken down and dissolved by cells called Osteoclasts and built up by cells called Osteoblasts. Osteoblasts secret an organic substance called Osteoid which is 90% Collagen Type I. Osteoid combines with the minerals Calcium and Phosphorus to produce bone. Problems occur when this balance is upset and bone-resorption exceeds bone building.

Nu Bones™ contains Collagen Type I which is the most abundant Collagen protein found in the body. It makes up 90% of bone mass. In another comparitive study, Draenert et al. The Calcium Carbonate treated formed irregular garland-like bone, which filled less than 50% of the loss. The MCHC treated showd an almost complete bone healing. There was a close-meshed, well mineralized trabecular system with bone remodeling clearly evident.

In one double blind clinical study of Osteoporosis, patients given MCHC, Calcium gluconate and a placebo, the results showd in bone density tests, that the Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite group had a gain of 6.1% bone mass, the Calcium gluconate group had only a 1.5% gain in bone mass and the placebo group had a -5.5% loss in bone mass. The results were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 36: 426-430, 1982.
