In another comparitive study, Draenert et al. (1985) between untreated, calcium carbonate and MCHA, after 56 days the untreated area of bone loss resulted in irregular, weakly mineralized bone roughly filling 50% of the loss. The MCHA treated showed an almost complete bone healing. There was a close-meshed, well mineralized trabecular system with bone remodeling clearly evident.
In one double blind clinical study of Osteoporosis, patients given MCHA, Calcium gluconate and a placebo, the results showed in bone density tests, that the Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite group had a gain of 6.1% bone mass, the Calcium gluconate group had only a 1.5% gain in bone mass and the placebo group had a -5.5% loss in bone mass. The results were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 36: 426-430, 1982.
